Moment of inertia, backbending, and molecular bifurcation.

We predict an anomaly in highly excited bending spectra of acetylene with high vibrational angular momentum. We interpret this in terms of a vibrational shape effect with moment of inertia backbending, induced by a sequence of bifurcations with a transition from "local" to "orthogonal" modes.

The Influence of Distal Radius Fracture Alignment on Forearm Rotation

INTRODUCTION: Fractures of the distal radius are the most common fracture of both adults and children. Distal radius fractures frequently heal with residual displacement and angulation with cast treatment and often cause distal radioulnar joint dysfunction including pain, decreased rotation, weakness, and arthritis. In spite of the frequency of these injuries, the indications for surgical treat...

Nonlinear magneto-optical rotation via alignment-to-orientation conversion

Nonlinear magneto-optical rotation is investigated at high light powers where the rotation is significantly modified by ac Stark shifts. These shifts are shown to change the overall sign of rotation for closed F-->F+1 transitions compared to the low light power limit. The effect is demonstrated by measurements in rubidium and density matrix calculations. The results are important for applicatio...

A Global Optimization Algorithm for Rotation Alignment of Spherical Surfaces

We propose a new approach to global optimization algorithm based on controlled random search techniques for rotational alignment of spherical surfaces with associated scalar values. To reduce the distortion in correspondence and increase efficiency, the spherical surface is first re-sampled using a geodesic sphere. The rotation in space is represented using the modified Rodrigues parameters. Co...

Backbending in Dy isotopes within the Projected Shell Model

A systematic study of the yrast band in 154−164Dy isotopes using the Projected Shell Model is presented. It is shown that, in the context of the present model, enlarging the mean field deformation by about 20% allows a very good description of the spectrum of yrast band in these isotopes. The dependence of the B(E2) values on angular momentum is also better described when larger deformations ar...
